The One Thing

She does this thing
When after she’s showered
And shaved all of her lady parts
But before she asks me
To rub moisturizing lotion into her back

She does this thing
Where she puts a single curler
At the front of her hair
And rolls up her bangs

The curler just hangs there

And while she waits
For her hair to set like that
She stands in front of the windows
Full of morning sun
And bird chatter
Rubbing lotion into the rest of her body

Then she puts on a sexy bra
And panties
Her silhouette slightly filtered
Through sleepy-blurred eyes
Against
The backdrop of goldleaf light

I watch the same scene
Every morning
As she gets ready for work

I finally roll over
Frustrated
And drift back off
Digging the fact that she leaves before me

All of that
Not to be wasted

She does this thing
Before she walks out the door
And I hear the chime
Of her car as she hits the unlock button
On her keys
And she goes out
Into the rest
Of the world
