Performance

I stand here
Center stage
A hollow puppet
With limbs held together
By Band-Aides.

My once dancing strings
Are silent and
Lifeless.

It’s embarrassing too.
My costume
Being a pair of stained
Boxers
With polka dots on them.

I cannot hide
From the bright
Invading light
From high above the dirty stage.

The heat from which
Causes me to sweat
The salty dew
Making the Band-Aides
Start to peel away
From my white flesh
And I wish the tattered curtain would close
Before I fall apart.
