Pizza Delivery Guy

Twenty years ago

I would’ve gotten in your car

And driven it

Around the block and parked it

Leaving it running

On a dare

Or as a joke.

I would’ve been laughing

My ass off

To myself

Or amongst friends.

I would’ve done it.

But it’s twenty years later.

And as it turned out

You came out of the door

Just as I came up

To the corner.

I walked one block further

And I heard an organ playing

Inside of a church.

I opened the heavy wooden door

And stepped within.

I took a seat in a pew at the rear

Of the empty chapel

And listened.

The organist didn’t know that

I was there

Until

Fifteen minutes later

When he ended

The fugue

Brilliantly

And I

Stood up by myself

And gave him a standing ovation.

And Pizza Delivery Guy...

You had no idea

That I was fully prepared

To take your car

And drive it around

The block

Leaving you senseless.

Moments later I would watch you

From across the street

As you freaked out

Brilliantly.

You too

Deserving of a standing ovation

For such a performance.
