Ode To Bazooka Joe

As my shoe sticks stubbornly to the sidewalk

I am shifted back in time

To when I was a child

And I managed to get gum stuck in my blonde hair.

I attempted to get it out myself

And only made it worse

By stretching strands of soft pink bubble gum

Through any available and remaining

Non-pink patches of hair.

I faced a horrified mother

That sat me down

And patiently went to work on my hair

With a comb and some home remedies

That eventually ended up

In a BAD haircut.

I think of this

And smile

As I pick at the soft pink wad

Stuck to the bottom of my shoe.
