Pas De Deux
You had this one caught
On your line.
The hook was in
The bait had already been swallowed.
I was ready for the full blown Tango.
To be brought to shore
Bright eyed and panting
Surrendering.
But you didn’t play.
You didn’t reel it in
Fast enough.
You paused.
You let this thirsty fishy
Go free
Back out into the open waters.
Until he nibbles on another line
And gets reeled in gasping
Through the tumultuous surf
Wave after wave.
Or gets eaten by
More dangerous
Perhaps
More heartless bastards
Throwing in their nets right now
As we speak.
No chance for a Tango.
